1995 batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre, Mr. Madhup Kumar Tiwari, has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Chandigarh.
He will replace DGP Praveer Ranjan, an IPS officer of 1993 batch. The outgoing DGP has been assigned to the new role of Additional Director General in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). He had joined Chandigarh police in Aug, 2021.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued the order regarding this appointment on 9 Feb, 2024.
Mr. Madhup, who was formerly Special CP, Law and Order in Delhi, is set to assume his responsibilities as the new DGP of Chandigarh Police soon.
He has also served as Deputy Inspector General in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and had led the high-profile investigation into the Rs. 6,100 crore Bank of Baroda forex scam, Rs. 45,000 crore Pearl Group ponzi scam and 2014 Badaun suicide case, etc. He had joined the CBI in 2013.
He was prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre on a request from the Union ministry of home affairs in April, 2016.
He belongs to Uttar Pradesh. He did engineering in Mechanical from IIT Kanpur and Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Jamalpur in 1994. He also did PGDPM (Diploma) in Police Management from Osmania University in 1997.
He worked as Assistant Mechanical Engineer in Indian Railways for a year from 1994 to 1995. Then, he joined Civil Services as an IPS officer in 1995.
He also served as Civilian Police Officer in United Nations Mission in Kosovo for a year from 2004 to 2005.
