An official announcement on Wednesday revealed that Satish Golcha, an IPS officer from the 1992 batch, has assumed interim responsibility as the Director General of Prisons following the retirement of Sanjay Beniwal.
According to an order issued by Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, Sanjay Beniwal, an IPS officer from the AGMUT cadre of 1989, held the position of Director General of Prisons for the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) until his retirement on April 30. The order also stated that a proposal has been forwarded to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for approval of a new appointment to the position of Director General of Prisons for GNCTD, pending clearance from the ECI.
In light of this, the order further stated, “Now, therefore, Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi is pleased to order that Sh. Satish Golcha, IPS (AGMUT: 1992) shall look after the charge of DG (Prison), GNCTD, as an interim measure, till further orders in public interest.”
Prior to this assignment, Golcha held various positions in the Delhi Police, including DCP, Joint CP, and Special CP. Notably, he served as the Special CP Law and Order during the North-East Delhi riots. Additionally, Golcha has previously served as the Director General of Police for Arunachal Pradesh.
