In a significant step toward digital unification of railway services, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched a new mobile application named SwaRail. Touted as a “Super App,” SwaRail aims to consolidate a wide array of services under a single platform, offering passengers a smoother and more integrated travel experience.
Developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the app is currently available in its testing phase (version v127) for Android users via the Google Play Store. The iOS version is yet to be released.
Unlike previous fragmented services offered through multiple apps, SwaRail offers a comprehensive user interface that brings together ticket booking, live train tracking, PNR status, onboard catering, station services, and tourism packages—all in one place.
Key features of SwaRail include:
1)Single Sign-On (SSO): Users can log in with their IRCTC credentials or create a new account.
2) Modern Dashboard: Unified access to PNR status, meal booking, tourism services, and more.
3) Live Train Tracking: Real-time updates on train status, delays, and platform numbers.
4)Tourism Integration: Direct booking of curated tourism packages from IRCTC.
The app promises a “wholesome experience”, eliminating the need to switch between multiple apps and simplifying the travel journey for millions of passengers.
While Android users can begin using the app immediately, iPhone users will need to wait for the iOS rollout, expected in a subsequent phase.
