Ranchi: Jharkhand’s proposed ₹2,184 crore Medico City project is expected to strengthen the state’s healthcare infrastructure, promote medical tourism and create new employment opportunities. The initiative aims to develop modern medical facilities and establish Jharkhand as a recognised destination for quality healthcare.
The project is expected to create opportunities for doctors, nurses, technical staff and other healthcare professionals as medical facilities expand. It could also encourage investment in the healthcare sector and help the state develop a stronger presence in medical tourism.
Jharkhand’s Health, Food Supply and Disaster Management Minister, Dr Irfan Ansari, has described the initiative as an important step towards improving the state’s healthcare system.
Jharkhand Aims to Strengthen Healthcare Infrastructure
Dr Irfan Ansari said he had been working continuously over the past two years to improve and strengthen healthcare services in Jharkhand. His goal is to develop modern medical facilities comparable to those available in major hospitals over the next two to three years.
The aim is to ensure that residents can access quality treatment within the state rather than travelling to other states for advanced medical care.
According to the minister, work to strengthen healthcare infrastructure is progressing under the guidance of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. He believes the development of Medico City and the promotion of medical tourism could play a significant role in advancing the state’s healthcare sector.
The proposed development is expected to focus on modern hospitals, improved medical infrastructure and access to advanced treatment facilities.
Better Healthcare for Poor and Rural Families
Dr Irfan Ansari said one of his key priorities is to ensure that poor, tribal, farming, labour and rural families receive better medical treatment within Jharkhand.
He emphasised that no family should have to travel to another state in search of treatment or face a threat to life because of a lack of financial resources.
To achieve this objective, the state needs to expand modern hospital facilities, improve the availability of specialist doctors and adopt new medical technologies.
These improvements could help patients access better treatment closer to home, reduce the need for travel for medical care and strengthen the overall healthcare delivery system.
Medico City Project Expected to Generate Employment
The ₹2,184 crore Medico City project is expected to support employment generation alongside the expansion of healthcare services.
The development of modern hospitals and associated medical facilities could create opportunities for professionals across several areas, including:
- Doctors and specialists: Greater demand for medical professionals as healthcare facilities expand.
- Nurses and healthcare staff: Additional roles in patient care and hospital operations.
- Technical personnel: Opportunities in medical technology, diagnostic services and equipment management.
- Other healthcare professionals: Employment in hospital administration and related support services.
The expansion of medical infrastructure could also encourage investment in healthcare services and related activities. However, the actual number of jobs created will depend on the project’s implementation and the facilities established.
Medical Tourism to Give Jharkhand a Wider Healthcare Profile
The development of Medico City is also expected to support Jharkhand’s ambitions in medical tourism. By expanding access to modern treatment facilities, the state aims to attract patients seeking healthcare services from within and potentially beyond the state.
Medical tourism can support the broader healthcare ecosystem by increasing demand for specialised treatment, diagnostic services and related facilities.
Dr Irfan Ansari believes that Medico City and medical tourism can help Jharkhand gain greater recognition in the healthcare sector. The initiative is expected to contribute to the development of medical services while creating opportunities for investment and employment.
Dr Irfan Ansari Reaffirms Commitment to Public Service
Reflecting on his professional journey, Dr Irfan Ansari said his commitment to serving people began when he took the oath as a doctor. He added that becoming the state’s Health Minister had not changed his fundamental objective of ensuring better treatment for everyone.
He described public trust as his greatest strength and said serving the people remained his duty. Improving Jharkhand’s healthcare system, he added, was a continuing commitment.
The minister stressed that strengthening healthcare is not limited to building hospitals. It also involves ensuring that people receive timely and quality treatment.
Reiterating his approach to public service, Dr Irfan Ansari said: “First a human being, then a doctor, and after that a politician.”
With the proposed ₹2,184 crore Medico City project, Jharkhand aims to expand modern healthcare facilities, improve access to treatment and develop new employment opportunities. The project’s progress and implementation will be key to achieving these objectives.
