New Delhi/Jharkhand: The Central Government has taken a significant step to strengthen rural administration in Jharkhand by releasing Rs 275.1253 crore for the state’s Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Rural Local Bodies (RLBs). This fund, allocated under the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission, is aimed at promoting decentralized governance and improving development outcomes in rural areas.

Fund Release for Fiscal Year 2024-25

The released amount represents the second installment of untied grants for the fiscal year 2024-25. According to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the fund will benefit:

  • 24 Zilla Parishads (District Councils)
  • 253 Block Panchayats
  • 4,342 Gram Panchayats

This funding is expected to enhance administrative efficiency, local development planning, and resource utilization across the state’s rural governance structures.

Breakup of the Grant: Untied and Tied Funds

The grant is divided into two major categories:

  1. Untied Grants: Can be used flexibly for various development initiatives at the local level.
  2. Tied Grants: Must be used for specific projects or activities as recommended by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, and approved by the Ministry of Finance.

This structure ensures that while local bodies have flexibility in addressing local needs, critical development priorities are systematically funded.

Focus on Rural Self-Governance and Infrastructure Development

The central government’s initiative aims to:

  • Promote rural self-governance through strengthened Panchayati Raj institutions.
  • Improve basic infrastructure in remote areas, including water conservation, sanitation, and community facilities.
  • Support inclusive development by ensuring all villages have access to resources and funds for targeted programs.

Experts note that such financial support will play a crucial role in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) at the grassroots level and enhancing governance in Jharkhand’s remote and underserved regions.

Government’s Commitment to Rural Development

This fund release underscores the government’s commitment to empowering local governance bodies and accelerating development projects in rural areas. With enhanced financial resources, Panchayati Raj Institutions and Rural Local Bodies are expected to plan, implement, and monitor development initiatives more effectively, bringing tangible improvements to the lives of rural citizens.
