Ranchi: In his opening address during the winter session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato emphasized the pivotal role the assembly plays in representing the aspirations of the people. Speaking on the occasion, Mahato expressed his confidence that under the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Jharkhand would progress rapidly on the path of development, ensuring that the growth is equitable, sustainable, and accessible to all.
Assembly as the “Sacred Temple of Democracy”
Speaker Mahato called the assembly the “most sacred temple of democracy,” urging members to reflect on and address the aspirations of the people of Jharkhand. He highlighted that the assembly is not just a building made of bricks and stones, but a living center for the hopes and dreams of the public. “Every voice here carries the echo of the people’s will,” Mahato stated, underscoring the importance of the legislature in shaping the future of the state.
He also urged the assembly members to focus on issues that resonate with the public’s desires and concerns, calling for a responsible and thoughtful approach to all legislative matters. The Speaker’s address highlighted the balance of roles in the winter session, which includes discussions on questions, fiscal responsibilities, legislative work, and private member issues.

Celebrating 25 Years of Jharkhand’s Journey
On the occasion of Jharkhand’s 25th Anniversary, Mahato reflected on the state’s growth, acknowledging the progress made in key sectors like infrastructure, education, health, and social empowerment. However, he pointed out that there remain significant challenges, particularly in remote villages, where access to basic amenities, job opportunities for youth, and inclusive development for tribal communities continue to be pressing concerns.
He described the state’s 25th year not as a celebration, but as a moment for introspection, renewal, and reaffirmation of commitment to further progress. Mahato lauded the contributions of the state’s indigenous communities, farmers, and youth, and noted that Jharkhand’s rich mineral resources had provided a strong foundation for its development.
Inclusive Development and Addressing Core Challenges
Speaker Mahato also highlighted the need for balanced and inclusive development, particularly focusing on ensuring that the state’s growth reaches every corner, especially underserved regions. He mentioned that although there has been considerable progress in key sectors, issues such as the lack of infrastructure in rural areas, employment for youth, and the development of tribal and indigenous communities still require concerted attention.
Emphasizing Dialogue and Unity in Diversity
In his address, Speaker Mahato urged members to maintain the sanctity of dialogue, even in the face of differences. “The beauty of democracy lies in the diversity of thoughts and opinions,” he said, emphasizing the importance of respectful discourse and collaboration. “It is this diversity of ideas that creates the vibrant colors of our legislative process. Even in disagreements, let us remain united in our commitment to the state’s development and the well-being of our people,” he added.
Welcoming New Member and Reviewing the Session’s Agenda
Mahato also formally welcomed Somesh Chandra Soren, the newly elected MLA from the Ghatsila constituency, who won the by-election. The Speaker congratulated Soren on his victory and expressed confidence that his presence would add to the strength and diversity of the assembly.
As the winter session began, Mahato assured that it would be a productive and disciplined period, with careful deliberation on legislative matters and a focus on public welfare. The session’s agenda includes discussions on key issues such as fiscal responsibility, legislative duties, and member-specific concerns, all aimed at furthering the state’s growth.
Looking Ahead: A Vision for Jharkhand’s Future
Mahato concluded his speech by reiterating the significance of the legislative process in shaping Jharkhand’s future. He expressed hope that the winter session would be orderly, meaningful, and beneficial to the people. In line with the state’s 25-year journey, Mahato called for self-reflection and renewed commitment to development, urging members to rise above partisan lines and work together for the betterment of Jharkhand.
