Barrier-Free Society in Focus: Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum Celebrates World Disability Day with Inclusive Programs

East Singhbhum celebrates World Disability Day with e-tricycles, certificates, and initiatives promoting inclusive development for persons with disabilities

Jharkhand’s Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari distributed e-tricycles to 10 persons with disabilities and presented certificates to athletes representing the state at the national level. Speaking at the event, he emphasized that a society can only be deemed progressive when equal opportunities, dignity, and an inclusive environment are ensured for persons with disabilities.

State Government Accelerates Welfare Schemes under Chief Minister’s Leadership

Dr. Ansari stated that the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Hemant Soren, is actively implementing various welfare schemes aimed at ensuring the well-being of all sections of society. The government’s focus includes enhancing accessibility, providing technical assistance, and supporting skill development for persons with disabilities.

District Social Security Cell Educates on Disability Support and Technical Assistance

During the programme at the Collectorate auditorium, organized by the District Administration, East Singhbhum, in collaboration with the District Social Security Cell, presentations were made on types of disabilities, available assistance provisions, and technical support mechanisms. The initiative aligns with this year’s World Disability Day theme: “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress.”

Officials and Community Representatives Stress Real-World Empowerment

Jugsalai MLA Mr. Mangal Kalindi, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Karn Satyarthi, Deputy Development Commissioner Mr. Nagendra Paswan, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal, and officials from multiple departments participated. Representatives of social organisations, disability rights activists, voluntary groups, and community members shared recommendations to strengthen disability-friendly infrastructure and policy implementation.

Focus on Education, Skills, and Livelihood Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities

Speakers underlined that empowerment should extend beyond symbolic gestures to tangible improvements in education, skill development, livelihood, and access to government services. The initiative was widely appreciated for its role in promoting a barrier-free and inclusive society.

Commitment to Continued Collaboration for Disability-Inclusive Development

The programme concluded with a reaffirmed commitment to foster collaboration between government agencies, civil society, and community groups to enhance the quality of life for persons with disabilities across East Singhbhum and the state.
