Ranchi: The Jharkhand Government is taking significant steps to establish a medicine manufacturing industry in the state, aiming to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, provide affordable medicines, and create thousands of employment opportunities. The announcement was made by Health, Food Supply, and Disaster Management Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari during a program held at the National Health Mission Auditorium, jointly organized by the Pharmacy Council of India and RKDF University.
Focus on Self-Reliant Healthcare and Local Medicine Production
Dr. Irfan Ansari emphasized that even two decades after the formation of the state, Jharkhand does not have a large-scale medicine manufacturing industry. Currently, essential medicines such as paracetamol and other critical medical supplies are imported from outside, posing challenges for the state’s healthcare system.
The proposed industry aims to increase local production of medicines, reduce costs, and make essential drugs more affordable for the general public. This initiative is expected to directly and indirectly provide employment opportunities for thousands of young professionals in the pharmaceutical sector.
Strengthening Employment Opportunities in Pharmacy and Healthcare
Jharkhand currently has over 123 pharmacy colleges, producing approximately 7,000 graduates annually. The establishment of a local medicine manufacturing industry will create job opportunities within the state, reducing dependence on external markets and ensuring that skilled graduates have meaningful employment in their own region.
Additionally, the government plans to establish 750 new medicine stores, which will require a large number of pharmacists, further expanding employment prospects in the healthcare sector.
Expanding Health Services Across the State
Minister Dr. Ansari also announced that under the National Health Mission (NHM), recruitment for more than 7,300 NNMs and GNMs will begin soon. These appointments aim to improve the reach and effectiveness of healthcare services in both rural and urban areas of Jharkhand.
Dr. Ansari urged students to pursue their studies with dedication and contribute to the development of the state’s healthcare system. He highlighted that coordinated efforts between healthcare services and pharmacy education are essential to build a strong and self-reliant health infrastructure.
A Step Towards Affordable Medicines and Skilled Workforce
This initiative reflects the Jharkhand government’s commitment to:
- Promoting local medicine production and reducing healthcare costs
- Strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure
- Creating direct and indirect employment for thousands of youth
- Expanding pharmacy and healthcare education opportunities
- Enhancing access to medicines and health services in rural and urban areas
By establishing a medicine manufacturing industry, Jharkhand aims to become self-reliant in healthcare supplies while providing a significant boost to the state’s economy and employment sector.
