Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has ordered a major reshuffle in the Police Department, transferring and posting 100 officers, including 28 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers and 72 Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (JKPS) officers, with immediate effect.
The changes cover senior police leadership, district police establishments, the Crime Investigation Department (CID), Traffic Police, Railways, Armed Police, security units and police training institutions across the Union Territory.
The Home Department issued the orders through Government Order No. 499-Home of 2026, dated October 9, in the interest of administration. The order was issued in the name of the Lieutenant Governor and signed by Chandraker Bharti, IAS, Financial Commissioner/Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department.
Key Appointments in the Police Reshuffle
The major changes among senior IPS officers include:
- Danesh Rana (IPS: 1996: AGMUT) has been appointed Managing Director of the J&K Police Housing Corporation, relieving S.J.M. Gillani, IPS, of the additional charge.
- Garib Dass (IPS: 1997: AGMUT) has been posted as ADG Homeguards, Civil Defence and SDRF.
- Abdul Jabbar (IPS: 2008: AGMUT) has been appointed IG Armed Police, Jammu.
