Allahabad High Court Gives Interim Relief to UPPSC APO Mains Candidate in Special Sunday Hearing

Voluntary Retirement Ruling
Indian Masterminds Stories

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court UPPSC APO Mains case took an extraordinary turn after the court held a special hearing at 6:00 AM on Sunday and allowed a candidate to provisionally appear in the Assistant Prosecution Officer (APO) 2025 Mains Examination. The order came just hours before the examination was scheduled to begin, ensuring the candidate did not lose the opportunity because of a technical dispute.

Background of UPPSC APO Mains 2025 Case

The petitioner, Shalini Pandey, had successfully cleared the UPPSC APO Preliminary Examination. She later submitted her online application for the mains examination and also sent the required documents through Speed Post within the prescribed time. However, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) rejected her candidature through an order dated June 11, 2026, stating that she had failed to submit the hard copy of the online application form.

UPPSC APO Mains 2025 Case: Emergency Hearing Before the Exam

Since the mains examination was scheduled for 9:00 AM on Sunday, the matter was treated as extremely urgent. Following an administrative order by the Chief Justice, the case was heard at the residence of Justice Amitabh Kumar Rai at 6:00 AM.

The petitioner’s lawyer argued that another candidate in a similar situation had recently been granted permission to take the examination. The counsel for UPPSC did not dispute that the petitioner had submitted the online application and acknowledged that arrangements could be made to allow her to appear provisionally.

UPPSC APO Mains 2025 Case: What the Court Ordered

After considering the facts, the Allahabad High Court directed that the petitioner should be provisionally allowed to appear in the UPPSC APO 2025 Mains Examination.

The court clarified that the rejection was based only on the alleged non-submission of the hard copy of the application form. Therefore, allowing her to sit for the examination would be subject to the final outcome of the writ petition.

Immediate Directions to UPPSC

To avoid any delay, Justice Amitabh Kumar Rai instructed the counsel representing UPPSC to immediately inform the Commission’s Secretary. The court directed the authorities to make all necessary arrangements so that the petitioner could appear at an examination centre in Lucknow on the same day.

What Happens Next?

The High Court has allowed the petitioner to amend her plea and formally challenge the June 11 rejection order. The State has been directed to file its counter-affidavit within three weeks, while the petitioner may submit a rejoinder within one week. The next hearing has been scheduled for July 29, 2026.
