Kariveda Narasimha Reddy has officially taken over as the Executive Director (ED) and Head of Project (HOP) at NTPC Talcher Kaniha, one of the most significant power stations under NTPC Limited, with effect from April 30, 2025.
With an illustrious career spanning over 35 years in India’s power sector, Reddy brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of leadership and operational excellence. He joined NTPC on September 5, 1989, and has since contributed to the corporation in several critical areas including project management, operations and maintenance (O&M), ash management, and mechanical maintenance.
A native of Andhra Pradesh, Reddy is an alumnus of Kakatiya University, Warangal, where he earned his degree in mechanical engineering. His core technical expertise lies in power plant operations, particularly in rotating machinery, mills and feeders, and boiler maintenance. Throughout his service, he has been instrumental in enhancing the safety, efficiency, and reliability of NTPC’s power installations across the country.

NTPC Talcher Kaniha, officially known as the Talcher Super Thermal Power Station, holds a special place in the Indian power sector. Located in the Angul district of Odisha, it was the first mega power project in the country and boasts a massive installed generation capacity of 3000 MW. The plant plays a crucial role in meeting the energy demands of several states and is a key component of India’s coal-based power generation infrastructure.
Coal for the plant is sourced from the Lingraj and Kaniha blocks of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd., ensuring a steady and reliable fuel supply. The water required for plant operations is drawn from the Samal Barrage Reservoir on the Brahmani River, maintaining the sustainability of the plant’s cooling and processing systems.
As the new ED and HOP, Reddy is expected to lead the Talcher Kaniha project into a new phase of operational excellence and innovation. His appointment is seen as a strategic move by NTPC to further strengthen the management of one of its flagship plants and reinforce its commitment to reliable and efficient power generation.
