GANDHINAGAR: The 2001 batch Senior IAS officer of Kerala cadre, Mr Sanjay Kaul assumed charge on Monday as the Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Gujarat International Finance-Tech City (GIFT City), India’s premier smart city and first International Financial Services Center (IFSC). He succeeds IAS (Retd.) Tapan Ray, who held the position since 2019.
Extensive Experience in Public Policy, Infrastructure, and Technology
Mr Kaul brings over two decades of diverse experience spanning public policy, infrastructure development, technology, and finance. Prior to his appointment at GIFT City, Kaul served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
His notable tenure includes leadership roles such as Managing Director at Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited and significant stints at Gujarat Informatics Limited. His career has been deeply intertwined with Gujarat’s development initiatives, contributing extensively to the state’s technological and tourism sectors.

Strong Educational and Professional Background
Originally from Gujarat, Sanjay Kaul is an alumnus of the National Institute of Technology, Surat, where he earned a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Further enhancing his expertise, he completed a professional degree in Public Policy from Syracuse University, New York, USA.
