Kerala Gets Its First Gen-Z Themed Post Office, Designed ‘By the Students, For the Students’

Thiruvananthapuram: In a landmark move aimed at reimagining how young India connects with essential postal services, India Post has unveiled Kerala’s first Gen-Z Post Office Extension Counter at CMS College, Kottayam. 

The innovative facility, inaugurated on 9 December 2025 by Shri N.R. Giri, Director of Postal Services (DPS) for the Kerala Central Region, represents a unique fusion of creativity, youth-centric design, sustainability, and service modernization.

This initiative marks a major step in India Post’s ongoing transformation efforts – shifting from traditional service points to next-generation community-centric hubs that align with evolving expectations of students and young professionals.

Background of Kerala Gen-Z Post Office 

India Post, one of the world’s largest and oldest postal networks, has been undertaking rapid modernization to remain relevant in a digital-first era. Recognizing the needs of Gen-Z and millennial customers – who prefer seamless, multifunctional spaces – India Post is increasingly focusing on experience-oriented service points.

The CMS College extension counter perfectly mirrors this vision. Developed under the guiding philosophy, “Of the students, by the students, for the students,” the entire project was conceptualized, designed, and co-created by CMS College students in collaboration with India Post officials.

This partnership reflects a strong commitment to nurturing youth participation in public service development while preserving postal heritage and embracing sustainability.

The newly launched extension counter is not just a postal unit—it is a vibrant, contemporary, nature-infused workspace that connects indoor and outdoor areas seamlessly.

  • Nature-themed seating zone surrounded by green elements, offering an eco-friendly and peaceful ambience.
  • Seating made from refurbished tyres, underscoring the institute’s commitment to sustainability.
  • A multifunctional layout that doubles as a work café, relaxation hub, green corner, and community meeting point.

This approach positions India Post not just as a service provider, but as a facilitator of student wellness, collaborative learning, and environmental harmony.
