Officer Sujith Das previously served as the District Police Chief (DPC) in Pathanamthitta and Malappuram. However, his appointment comes while he remains under investigation by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) over allegations against him and ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar (1995-batch IPS officer). The VACB’s Special Investigation Unit-1 (SIU) recently cleared Ajith Kumar, but the probe against Sujith Das is still ongoing.
Mr. Sujith Das was suspended on September 5, 2024, following allegations made by former Nilambur MLA P.V. Anvar. In a phone conversation that stirred controversy, Anvar accused him of serious misconduct, including involvement in murder and missing cases, supporting gold smugglers, and the illegal felling of valuable trees from the Malappuram DPC camp. The investigation was initiated based on a government order issued in September 2024.
Despite the pending inquiry, Mr. Sujith Das was reinstated earlier this month. The VACB is currently probing allegations of misappropriation of seized gold and wealth, along with claims of illegally removing valuable trees from the Malappuram police camp.
In another key transfer, Ms. Merin Joseph, 2012-batch IPS officer, who was serving as Crime Branch SP, has been posted as Assistant Inspector General of Police (Policy), replacing Mr. Kishore Kumar J. Kumar, who has been appointed as Controller, Legal Metrology.
