Kochi: The Kerala High Court has suspended judicial officer Udayakumar V after a woman litigant accused him of making sexually coloured and obscene remarks during counselling sessions. He was serving at the Chavara Family Court at the time of the allegations.
Complaint and Transfer
The litigant reported the misconduct to the Kollam Principal District Judge. Following this, the High Court’s administrative committee ordered Udayakumar’s transfer to the Kollam Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) on August 20.
The Registrar (District Judiciary) was also instructed to conduct a detailed inquiry. The High Court later reviewed the written complaints and the Principal District Judge’s reports before taking further action.
Suspension and Disciplinary Proceedings
On August 26, the High Court placed Udayakumar under suspension. The order noted that disciplinary proceedings under the Kerala Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1960 are being considered against him.
The court stated that the suspension was necessary in the public interest while misconduct allegations are examined.
Subsistence Allowance During Suspension
As per the suspension order, Udayakumar will receive the maximum permissible subsistence allowance along with other allowances under the Kerala Service Rules.
The action underscores the High Court’s stance on accountability and transparency in cases of judicial misconduct.
