Kerala IPS Association Criticizes MLA P.V. Anvar for Remarks Against Malappuram Police Chief

The Kerala Chapter of the IPS Association has sharply criticized Nilambur MLA P.V. Anvar for his recent remarks about Malappuram District Police Chief S. Sasidharan, calling them derogatory, defamatory, and harmful to the integrity of the police force. The association expressed deep concern over the MLA’s statements, which they believe could undermine public confidence and legal integrity.

The controversy began during an event organized by the Kerala Police Association in Malappuram on September 19, where Mr. Anvar, sharing the stage with the senior police officer, made comments that were seen as highly offensive. Among his remarks, Mr. Anvar referred to the District Police Chief as a “fascist” and drew parallels between the situation in Kerala and Bangladesh, suggesting that the public might be provoked into taking drastic actions. These comments led the IPS Association to unanimously pass a resolution condemning the statements during their meeting on Tuesday.

In a formal response, the IPS Association condemned the MLA’s “unjustified remarks,” emphasizing that such assertions damage the reputation and professionalism of the entire IPS cadre. They were particularly concerned about Mr. Anvar’s sweeping accusations against “most” IPS officers, which he claimed exhibited disgraceful conduct, a claim the association found deeply disturbing.

Additionally, the association took issue with Mr. Anvar’s public admission of attempting to improperly influence the District Police Chief on multiple official matters, an action they argued shows blatant disregard for the rule of law.

The IPS Association warned that if these public statements against a constitutional authority like an All India Service officer go unchallenged, it could lead to a dangerous precedent of disregard for law and order. To maintain public trust and uphold the principles of justice, the association has urged MLA P.V. Anvar to retract his statements and formally apologize to both the District Police Chief and the IPS community at large.

The association also announced plans to file a formal complaint with the Chief Minister and is exploring legal avenues to address the issue. This development has stirred considerable debate in Kerala, with observers keen to see how the matter will unfold and what measures will be taken to safeguard the reputation of the police force.
