Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has shared his vision for Madhya Pradesh’s emergence as a global tourism hub, highlighting the state’s transformation into a diverse, secure, and fast-growing tourism destination. In a blog post, CM Yadav wrote that Madhya Pradesh is now shining like the Pole Star on the global tourism map, driven by rich natural beauty, cultural heritage, and a strategic shift in tourism policy.
A New Era for Madhya Pradesh Tourism
Dr. Yadav emphasized that tourism in the state has now matured into a full-fledged industry, fueled by robust policies, infrastructure upgrades, and a multi-dimensional approach. The state offers natural, spiritual, wildlife, cultural, rural, adventure, agricultural, film, and medical tourism, making it a comprehensive tourist destination.
“The concepts of decades ago regarding tourism have now ended. Tourism has taken the form of an industry,” wrote the CM, adding that the sector is one of the largest job creators in the economy.
Diverse Offerings Across Tourism Segments
Madhya Pradesh’s tourism landscape is expanding rapidly:
- Spiritual hubs like Ujjain’s Mahakal Lok, visited by 7 crore devotees last year
- Natural beauty in the lush forests of Kanha, Bandhavgarh, and Pench
- Cultural gems like Sanchi, Khajuraho, Bhimbetka, and Gwalior Fort
- Emerging segments like medical tourism, film tourism, and agritourism
CM Yadav stated that new forms of tourism are developing in synergy with traditional offerings. With the growth of homestays and tourist villages, rural and tribal art forms such as Gond painting, Mandana, and Bhil art are gaining global recognition.
Global Recognition & UNESCO Aspirations
Several iconic sites in Madhya Pradesh are in the process of being added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, including:
- Gwalior Fort
- Khooni Bhandara, Burhanpur
- Stone art sites of Chambal
- Bhojeshwar Mahadev Temple, Bhojpur
- Dhamnar caves, Mandsaur
- Ramnagar’s Gond memorial, Mandla

“Madhya Pradesh has opened the doors of economic investment, and this is having a direct impact on the tourism sector,” said the Chief Minister.
Film Tourism: A Rising Star
With growing support for filmmakers, Madhya Pradesh is rapidly emerging as a top destination for film tourism. Famous films have been shot across the state, benefiting:

- Tourism-based micro-enterprises
- Tourism as a Driver of Economic Development
In 2024 alone, the state recorded over 13.41 crore tourists, a historic high. The number of foreign tourists is also increasing steadily, reinforcing MP’s place as a preferred travel destination.

- 100 tourist villages, with 470+ operational homestays
- Pranpur declared India’s first handloom tourism village
Expanding spiritual landmarks like Shri Ram Raja Temple in Orchha and multiple new spiritual “Loks” being developed
