In a concerning development, the Maharashtra government has abruptly instructed its institution situated at CMST, which recently enrolled 100 students for IAS exam preparation, to vacate its current location.
The State Institute for Administrative Careers (SIAC), established in 1976, has played a pivotal role in training candidates for prestigious civil services such as IAS, IFS, IPS, and others. SIAC was founded by the state with the aim of enhancing its representation in national-level civil services.
The 100 students, selected through a rigorous process, were taken aback when they received an eviction notice on December 11, merely a week into their classes. They are now urging the government to provide alternative accommodation, especially since 60 students are currently residing in the hostel on the same premises.
According to the letter received by the institute from the Public Works Department (PWD), the institute’s premises will undergo development and privatization under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) principle. The institute’s director has been tasked with finding an alternative space independently and handing over the premises to the PWD.
