New Delhi: In a significant development, the central government has approved a second consecutive one-year extension for Mallika Srinivasan, Chairperson of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), the apex government body responsible for selecting top executives for India’s Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

Extension Details

The official order states that Ms. Srinivasan’s extension will take effect from November 19, 2025, allowing her to continue leading the PSU head-hunter until November 18, 2026. Government Commends Performance

The decision to extend her tenure comes as the government expressed satisfaction with her performance, highlighting effective and transparent selection processes under her leadership. Reports indicate that several state-owned PSUs have demonstrated encouraging results during her term, reinforcing the rationale for the extension.

Background and Career Highlights

  • Initial Appointment: Ms. Srinivasan became the Chairperson of PESB in April 2021, succeeding Rajeev Kumar (Retd. IAS: 1984: JH).
  • Historic Achievement: She was the first private-sector specialist to head PESB.
  • Tenure Terms: Her initial term was set for three years or until she reached the age of 65, whichever came first.
  • First Extension: In November 2024, she received her first one-year extension, valid until November 18, 2025.

In addition to her role at PESB, Mallika Srinivasan continues to serve as Chairperson and Managing Director of Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd (TAFE), further cementing her stature as a leading figure in both the public and private sectors.

Looking Ahead

With this extension, Ms. Srinivasan is expected to continue steering the selection process for top executives in PSUs, maintaining the momentum of transparent governance and strategic leadership in India’s public sector enterprises.
