Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday launched a mega tree plantation campaign, announcing that the state will plant 52 crore saplings this year. The event, held in Rampur Halwara village on Dashrath Path in Ayodhya, also saw the Chief Minister participate in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, under which he planted a sapling and took a selfie to promote environmental awareness.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said, “In the last eight years, we have planted 204 crore trees, and over 75% of them are alive, showing our commitment to sustainable green development.” He added that the plantation efforts have significantly contributed to expanding the state’s green cover.
Forest Cover Expands Across 5 Lakh Acres
Quoting a recent survey by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, CM Yogi revealed that forest cover in Uttar Pradesh has increased by 5 lakh acres. The report has also been verified by third-party institutions designated by the state.
“We have successfully shifted from a heatwave to a green wave,” the Chief Minister said, stressing that these afforestation efforts will help combat climate change and contribute to a healthier planet.
Visit to Ayodhya and Review of Ram Mandir Construction
Before launching the plantation drive, CM Yogi began his visit to Ayodhya by offering prayers at the Hanumangarhi temple, seeking peace and prosperity for the state. He also performed aarti and circumambulated the temple complex.
Later, the Chief Minister offered prayers at the Ram Lalla sanctum sanctorum and reviewed the progress of the Ram Mandir construction. Officials from the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust briefed him on the current status and future milestones of the temple project.
This was CM Yogi’s first visit to Ayodhya in July, following his earlier visit on June 5 for the inauguration of the Ram Darbar.
Upon arrival at the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, the Chief Minister received a warm welcome from local public representatives and district officials.
The day-long visit symbolised the Chief Minister’s dual focus on cultural heritage and environmental sustainability, aligning with his broader development vision for Uttar Pradesh.
