Indian Masterminds Stories

Sambalpur: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a key subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has signed two significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the District Administration of Bargarh to implement educational infrastructure projects worth Rs 80 lakh. The projects, funded under MCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, aim to improve educational facilities and promote inclusive growth in the Barpali Block of Bargarh district, Odisha.

The MoUs were officially signed on Thursday between MCL’s General Manager (CSR) and the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Barpali, marking a key step in the company’s ongoing commitment to community development and educational empowerment in rural areas.

Key Projects Under the MoUs:

  • Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir Auditorium and Parking Facility (Rs 59.75 Lakh):
The first project involves a Rs 59.75 lakh investment to build an auditorium hall and parking facility at Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir in Barpali. The new auditorium will serve as a venue for academic, cultural, and extracurricular activities, enhancing the school’s learning environment. Additionally, the parking facility will help manage student traffic safely and efficiently, while also fostering greater participation from SC/ST/OBC communities in school and local events.
  • Additional Classrooms at Government High School, Agalpur (Rs 20.78 Lakh):
The second initiative, valued at Rs 20.78 lakh, focuses on constructing additional classrooms at Government High School in Agalpur. This expansion will help address overcrowding, improve the student-teacher ratio, and create a better space for interactive and activity-based learning. The upgraded infrastructure will accommodate more students and enhance the overall educational experience.

The new infrastructure will also serve as a catalyst for promoting inclusive growth by ensuring that students from marginalized communities have access to better educational facilities.

MCL’s efforts reflect its broader CSR vision to invest in sustainable development, particularly in areas such as education, healthcare, and community welfare. By enhancing local infrastructure, MCL is playing a key role in strengthening the social and educational fabric of Odisha’s rural areas.
