Mumbai: In a landmark move for India’s maritime sector, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited has signed a contract with Shipping Corporation of India for the construction of a 3000 DWT Methanol Dual-Fuel Platform Supply Vessel (PSV).
Valued at approximately USD 39 million (~₹320 crore), the project marks a significant step toward green shipping and sustainable maritime operations in India.
A Major Boost to Green Shipping in India
The vessel will operate on methanol as an alternative fuel, reducing dependence on conventional marine fuels and significantly lowering carbon emissions. The initiative aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) and broader climate goals.
This will be the first methanol dual-fuel PSV in SCI’s fleet, highlighting a shift toward environmentally friendly maritime technologies.
