Sudhanshu Mohan Samal, a 2010-batch IAS officer, has officially taken charge as the new Managing Director (MD) of Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC). He succeeds the outgoing MD, Balwant Singh (IAS), following a minor reshuffle on November 24.
Before his appointment, Samal served as the Additional Secretary in the Water Resources Department. His distinguished career includes stints as Joint Secretary in the same department and as the District Magistrate and Collector in various prominent districts of Odisha.
Known for his exceptional academic and professional background, Samal was ranked among the top-20 candidates in the prestigious UPSC CSE exams. He holds a postgraduate degree in Economics from Central University, Hyderabad.
Notably, Samal’s career began with a tenure as an Indian Economic Service (IES) officer with the Planning Commission (now NITI Aayog), where he had been working prior to his selection for the IAS. His new role at OMC is expected to bring in fresh perspectives to the organization’s operations and its contribution to Odisha’s mining sector.
