In a significant breakthrough, Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd. (MEIL) has bagged a monumental order worth approximately ₹13,000 crore from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL). The deal involves the construction and supply of two 700 MW nuclear reactors, marking MEIL’s foray into India’s burgeoning nuclear energy sector.
According to a company statement, MEIL has “formally received a purchase order for ₹12,800 crore from NPCIL to construct two 700 MWe nuclear reactors — Kaiga Units 5 & 6 — in Karnataka.” The tender was awarded through the Quality-cum-Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) process, where MEIL outperformed industry heavyweights such as BHEL and L&T.
This win not only signals MEIL’s growing dominance in India’s infrastructure landscape but also highlights its technical expertise and competitive edge in high-stakes projects.
“Competing with industry giants like BHEL and L&T, MEIL was chosen for its strong technical approach and competitive pricing,” the company noted.
Based in Hyderabad, MEIL has an expansive portfolio spanning power, water, hydrocarbons, irrigation, oil & rigs, defence, transport, compressed gas distribution, and electric mobility. This latest achievement propels MEIL into the critical nuclear sector, reflecting India’s push towards expanding its nuclear power capacity.
