Patna: The Bihar government has approved a plan to facilitate industrial development on the land of the long-closed Motipur Sugar Mill in Muzaffarpur district.
Under the decision, 115.08 acres of the Bihar State Sugar Corporation’s land will be earmarked for the establishment of a sugar mill, while the remaining 151.58 acres will be transferred to the Industries Department for setting up other industrial units.
The state Cabinet has approved the land-use arrangement, covering the entire 266-acre site. The decision is part of the government’s broader industrial development agenda under the Saat Nischay-3 programme and its stated goal of building a prosperous industrial economy in Bihar.
115.08 Acres Earmarked for Sugar Mill
According to the approved plan, 115.08 acres will be used for establishing a sugar mill at Motipur.
The allocation is intended to provide dedicated land for the proposed sugar mill while allowing the remaining portion of the former industrial site to be used for other industrial activities.
The Motipur unit had remained closed for a prolonged period. The latest cabinet decision seeks to facilitate the industrial use of its land.
151.58 Acres to Be Transferred to Industries Department
The remaining 151.58 acres will be transferred to the Industries Department for the establishment of industries other than the proposed sugar mill.
The availability of this land is expected to provide space for industrial projects at the site. However, the government announcement does not specify the names of companies, the nature of individual projects or their investment amounts.
Agriculture-Based Industries Among Potential Areas
Motipur and its surrounding areas have an agriculture-based economy. The government release identifies sectors such as agriculture and food processing, agro-based industries, warehousing and logistics as areas with potential for development.
The allocation of land for industrial purposes is expected to facilitate investment proposals in these sectors, although no specific projects or implementation timelines have been announced.
Part of Bihar’s ‘Samriddh Udyog-Sashakt Bihar’ Agenda
The decision has been taken under the Samriddh Udyog-Sashakt Bihar objective, which forms part of the state government’s Saat Nischay-3 programme.
By earmarking separate portions of the Motipur site for a sugar mill and other industries, the government aims to facilitate industrial development on the former sugar corporation land.
