Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated the state-level Flower Exhibition at the Government Rose Garden, Link Road No. 1, Bhopal, on the occasion of Kisan Kalyan Year 2026. The exhibition has been extended to three days to promote commercial floriculture, boost farmers’ income, and encourage rural entrepreneurship.
Madhya Pradesh Leads in Flower Production
Speaking at the inauguration, CM Dr. Yadav highlighted that Madhya Pradesh is now a leading state in flower production, contributing significantly to farmers’ income and rural business opportunities. He noted that flowers from the state are now reaching international markets, including Paris and London, and that Madhya Pradesh has become India’s second-largest flower-producing state.
“Flowers are not only a symbol of nature but also a powerful expression of human emotions, marking every auspicious occasion in life,” Dr. Yadav said. “Today, they are helping farmers increase their income, promote rural entrepreneurship, and strengthen export potential.”
Promotion of Commercial Floriculture
The state-level flower exhibition is designed to encourage farmers to adopt commercial floriculture. The event brings together flower producers, nursery operators, and buyers at a single platform to provide guidance on market opportunities and best practices in flower cultivation.
- Around 40,000 farmers in Madhya Pradesh are engaged in floriculture
- Flowers are cultivated across 45,000 hectares in the state
- Millions of tons of flowers are annually supplied to Gujarat, Maharashtra, and international markets
The exhibition also featured competitions, with winners receiving awards, and the distribution of benefits to various scheme beneficiaries. A brochure highlighting departmental schemes was released, and a short film on horticulture activities in the state was screened.
Government Support for Farmers
CM Dr. Yadav emphasized the state government’s continuous efforts to increase farmers’ income through floriculture, dairy, fisheries, and other sectors. Key initiatives include:
- Technical training and subsidies for flower cultivation
- Support under Micro Irrigation Schemes and PMFME with up to 45% subsidy for setting up polyhouses and seednet houses
- Minimum support prices for wheat, with rates expected to increase to ₹3,000 per quintal by 2030
He also highlighted that the area under flower cultivation has increased from 37,000 hectares in 2021-22 to 44,000 hectares, with total production reaching 8.6 million tons.
Encouraging Rural Entrepreneurship
Dr. Yadav emphasized that promoting commercial floriculture is not only increasing farmers’ income but also fostering entrepreneurship in rural areas. Through events like the flower exhibition, farmers gain exposure to markets, innovative cultivation techniques, and business opportunities.
