Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is poised to witness a major leap in industrial infrastructure as the state prepares for the Bhoomi Pujan of the Rs 1800 crore ‘Brahma’ Rail Coach Manufacturing Hub on August 10 in Umaria village of Raisen district, near Bhopal. The ceremony will be performed by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, with several top dignitaries attending, including Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Defence Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar, Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar, and BEML Chairman Shantanu Rai.
The mega project, initiated under the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat missions, is being developed by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and is expected to boost employment, strengthen regional infrastructure, and transform Bhopal into an industrial hub.
Metro, Vande Bharat, and Amrit Bharat Coaches to Be Manufactured
Named the ‘Brahma Project’, the factory will focus on the production of high-speed rail coaches including those for Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, and Metro trains. With an initial production capacity of 125–200 coaches per year, the unit plans to scale up to 1,100 coaches annually within five years.
This is expected to revolutionize India’s rail manufacturing capabilities, aligning with global standards and reducing reliance on imports.
Strategic Location to Boost Development in Central MP
Spread across 60 hectares near the Bhopal-Raisen border, the plant will bring significant development to the Raisen, Sehore, and Vidisha districts, along with the Mandideep industrial area. The proximity to Bhopal Metropolitan Region enhances its strategic value, making it a key driver for regional economic growth.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized that this is not just an industrial project but a gateway to future-ready infrastructure and employment. Over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be generated, particularly benefiting students from local technical institutions.
Green Factory Standards and Sustainability at the Core
Dr. Yadav also highlighted that the plant would be developed adhering to green factory norms, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and environmental protection. The project will feature:
- Zero liquid waste systems
- Rainwater harvesting
- Solar and renewable energy usage
- Green landscaping
- Use of recycled and sustainable construction materials
This ensures that industrial growth goes hand-in-hand with eco-conscious planning, making the Brahma project a model for future industrial parks.
A Result of Visionary Leadership and Strategic Planning
Speaking ahead of the foundation-laying ceremony, CM Yadav said,
“Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Madhya Pradesh is writing a new chapter in industrial development. This plant is a gift of vision, commitment, and strategy.“
He recalled his visit to the BEML Institute in Bangalore a few months ago, where the decision to establish the plant in Raisen was finalized. The project is a direct result of coordination between state and central leadership, showcasing how cooperative federalism can translate into on-ground transformation.
Swadeshi Drive and National Self-Reliance
The Brahma Rail Coach Factory is designed to reduce India’s dependency on foreign equipment by manufacturing key technologies and components domestically. This move strongly aligns with Swadeshi principles, making the state an emerging leader in defense and rail infrastructure manufacturing.
Multimedia Showcase During Ceremony
During the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony at Dussehra Ground, Obedullaganj, attendees will witness a 3D walkthrough of the plant, models of future infrastructure, and a short film on BEML’s journey, highlighting the vision behind the Brahma project.
