New Delhi: The National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), under the guidance of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. The MoU is aimed at securing the procurement of 40,000 metric tons per annum (MT p.a.) of Calcined Petroleum Coke (CP Coke) – an essential raw material for the production of aluminium. This partnership, formalized in Guwahati, marks a significant step toward enhancing India’s indigenous supply chains and bolstering raw material security for the aluminium industry.
Strengthening Indigenous Supply Chains and Raw Material Security
The strategic agreement between NALCO and NRL focuses on boosting domestic sourcing of CP Coke, reducing reliance on imports, and promoting self-reliance within the Indian aluminium sector. By securing a consistent supply of CP Coke, NALCO can ensure operational efficiency, reduce supply chain disruptions, and enhance overall production capabilities. The move aligns with the government’s push for sustainable industrial growth and the development of homegrown supply chains.

It also supports the company’s broader objective of strengthening India’s position as a global leader in aluminium production.
With this agreement, NALCO will be able to optimize production costs, maintain consistent supply, and reinforce its commitment to sustainable industrial practices. This deal is a clear signal of India’s growing emphasis on self-reliance and strengthening the domestic supply chain for critical industries.
Strategic Partnership for a Self-Reliant Aluminium Industry
