New Delhi: In a landmark achievement for gender representation in Indian security forces, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has set a new precedent: half of all Inspector General (IG)-rank officers in the force are now women. This is the highest female representation at the IG level in any armed force in India to date.
This remarkable feat underscores the growing leadership of women in national security, driven by the inspiring performance of four distinguished officers: Shanti Jaidev, Jyoti Sinha, Pratibha Agarwal, and Neelima Rani.
The Women Behind the Transformation
IG Shanti Jaidev – Strength of the East
Currently serving as IG (Eastern Region), Shanti Jaidev oversees security operations in Eastern India. Known for her sharp foresight and administrative acumen, she has significantly strengthened CISF’s operational readiness in the region.
IG Jyoti Sinha – Guardian of Atomic and Space Assets
As IG (DAE & DOS), Jyoti Sinha commands the critical security of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and the Department of Space (DOS). Her strategic leadership ensures the protection of India’s most sensitive and high-tech installations.
IG Pratibha Agarwal – The Tech Strategist
At CISF Headquarters, Pratibha Agarwal manages Technology and Provisioning. Her vision is helping modernize CISF’s infrastructure by introducing advanced equipment and optimizing resource allocation, making the force more agile and future-ready.
IG Neelima Rani – Leading Central India
Neelima Rani, as IG (Central Region), supervises CISF activities across Central India. Her resolve, operational focus, and leadership have played a key role in elevating the force’s capabilities in the heartland.
A Turning Point in Gender Equality in Forces
This development marks a historic shift in the Indian armed forces, showcasing the power of Nari Shakti (women empowerment). These appointments reflect the CISF’s progressive outlook and commitment to providing leadership opportunities to women at the highest levels of command.
A senior CISF official stated, “This is not just a record—it’s a message to every girl in India that leadership in national security is within reach.“
