Patna: The Government of India has launched the National Gopal Ratna Awards 2025, aimed at recognizing and rewarding exceptional contributions by cattle farmers, dairy cooperatives, and artificial insemination technicians. The awards, announced by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy, seek to encourage sustainable practices and excellence in rearing indigenous cow and buffalo breeds.
Three Award Categories
The awards are divided into three categories:
- Best Dairy Farmer cultivating indigenous cow or buffalo breeds.
- Best Dairy Cooperative / Milk Producer Company (MPC) / Farmer Producer Organization (FPO).
- Best Artificial Insemination Technician.
Applicants can submit entries online through the Ministry of Home Affairs portal at https://awards.gov.in until September 15, 2025. Each individual or organization can apply in only one category, and previous awardees are not eligible. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
Prize Money for Excellence
Cash awards will be given based on category:
- Category 1: ₹5,00,000
- Category 2: ₹3,00,000
- Category 3: ₹2,00,000
Government Initiative for Indigenous Breeds
The awards initiative is part of the government’s larger vision to promote indigenous cattle breeds and strengthen the dairy sector across India. By incentivizing farmers and technicians, the government hopes to enhance productivity, encourage innovation, and ensure sustainable livestock management practices.
