New Delhi: In a tragic incident that has raised serious questions about road safety, emergency response, and possible cover-up attempts, Navjot Singh, Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, died in a high-speed road accident in Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan area. His wife remains in critical condition.
The couple was returning from Gurudwara Bangla Sahib to their home in Hari Nagar when a BMW car – allegedly driven by a woman named Gaganpreet – rammed into their bike near Metro Pillar No. 57 on the Ring Road. The collision took place on the afternoon of September 14, triggering massive outrage over how the case was handled.
Accused Couple Injured, Taken to Same Hospital
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary reports, the BMW was being driven by Gaganpreet, a resident of Gurugram, accompanied by her husband Parikshit. After the collision, both accused were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Shockingly, the couple used a taxi to transport the victims – not to a nearby hospital, but to New Life Hospital in GTB Nagar, nearly 17 km away from the accident site.

Victim’s Son Alleges Delay, Hidden Identity, and Cover-Up
Speaking from the hospital, Navnoor Singh, son of the deceased officer, alleged multiple irregularities–
- His parents were transported in a porter van rather than an ambulance.
- The woman driver was “hidden” for six hours and later found in the same hospital.
- Doctors were allegedly trying to forge a false MLC (Medico-Legal Case) report for her.
- He suspects the hospital may be linked to the accused, raising concerns over conflict of interest and possible suppression of facts.
Navnoor said, “Had my father been taken to a nearby hospital, he might have survived. I still don’t know why they took him so far. I’m told the hospital belongs to the accused family.”
CSS Forum Demands Justice for Officer’s Death
The Central Secretariat Service Forum (CSS Forum), the official representative body of all Central Secretariat Service officers, has also spoken out. In a post on social media platform X, the forum expressed its grief and demanded urgent action:
“The CSS fraternity mourns the untimely demise of Sh. Navjot Singh, Dy. Secretary, Ministry of Finance. A dedicated officer, his passing is a huge loss to Service & Nation 🇮🇳. We call upon Delhi Police to ensure strict & speedy justice.”
The forum’s statement reflects the broader concern and outrage among government officers over the incident.

Police Take Swift Action, Vehicle Seized
The South-West Delhi DCP confirmed that a case under Section 304A (death by negligence) and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act has been registered. The BMW and the motorcycle have been seized, and statements of the accused couple are being recorded. The DCP assured that further legal action will follow postmortem findings.
The crime team and forensic experts (FSL) also inspected the scene, and CCTV footage is said to be under review, though the victim’s family claims it hasn’t been provided to them yet.

Traffic Disruption, Legal Probe Underway
The incident led to a traffic jam on Ring Road for over an hour. Police received multiple PCR calls reporting the obstruction before reaching the scene. According to eyewitnesses, the BMW was positioned diagonally on the road, and the motorcycle was found lying near the divider.
Authorities are now also looking into possible medical negligence and will examine whether hospital staff violated standard emergency response protocols.
A Birthday Turns Into Tragedy
Navnoor, who had recently started working, revealed that the tragedy unfolded just a day before his birthday on September 16. He had spoken to his father the previous evening and received a missed call from him minutes before the accident.
“I was celebrating my birthday weekend when I got the news. He called at 1:00 PM. I couldn’t answer. I called back after 2 minutes. He didn’t pick up. Now he’s gone,” Navnoor said, visibly distraught.
Demands for Justice Intensify
As the family mourns their loss, calls for justice and transparent investigation are growing. The son has demanded full disclosure of CCTV footage, proper accountability for delay in medical treatment, and strict action against all those involved, including any hospital staff who may have been complicit in delaying treatment or falsifying documents.
Mr Navjot Singh, a resident of Hari Nagar, served as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance.
