Highlights from Navjot Singh’s Viral UN Speech
In his address, Singh passionately emphasized the importance of private sector financing in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
“Private sector financing plays a catalytic role in bridging the SDG financing gap by offering vital capital, technological innovation, and scalable solutions. Yet despite growing attention to the agenda, actual private capital flows to developing countries remain limited,” Mr Singh stated.

He laid out a thoughtful framework for mobilising private finance, especially to support developing nations-
Support for MSMEs
“We encourage DFIs, IFIs, MDBs, and NDBs to collaborate with local banks to offer affordable finance, project development assistance, and capacity building for MSMEs.”
Promoting Local Currency Lending
“Increasing local currency lending is crucial to mobilise private capital and reduce dependence on foreign debt.”
Tailored Investment Instruments
“Country-specific innovative instruments are vital for critical sectors like health, education, resilient agriculture, and disaster management.”
