New Delhi: Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) supplied a record 137.08 million tonnes (MT) of coal to power and other sectors during FY 2025–26, significantly strengthening India’s energy security amid rising domestic demand and changing global energy dynamics.
Major Contribution to Power Sector
Of the total dispatch, approximately 86% (117.85 MT) was supplied to coal-based power plants, including major consumers like NTPC Vindhyachal, reinforcing the critical role of NCL in supporting the country’s electricity generation.
- Total coal produced: 140.5 MT, a 1.08% growth over FY25
- Environment-friendly dispatch: 85.51% of total coal transported via sustainable modes
Outstanding Performance Across Mines
NCL successfully met its annual production targets across all 10 mechanized mega opencast mines, reflecting strong operational coordination:
- Jayant Project: 30 MT (highest production)
- Dudhichua and Nigahi Projects: 25 MT each
- Overburden removal: 461.7 million cubic metres
This performance highlights NCL’s focus on operational efficiency and coordinated project management.
Driving India’s Energy Security
Located in the Moher Sub-Basin of the Singrauli Coalfield, spanning Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, NCL contributes to nearly 10% of India’s electricity generation. The company plays a pivotal role in supplying coal to thermal power plants, supporting the nation’s power demands and energy transition goals.
