Lucknow: In a transformative move to modernize law enforcement practices, the Uttar Pradesh Police have launched a comprehensive five-day behavioural training program for 60,244 newly recruited constables. This initiative, inaugurated by Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna, an IPS officer of 1991 batch, in Lucknow, aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Mission Karmayogi’ – a national effort to foster attitudinal transformation in civil services by enhancing soft skills, communication, and accountability.
Decentralized Training Model for Statewide Implementation
The training program will be conducted across all 112 police training centers in Uttar Pradesh, making it one of the largest behavioural training exercises undertaken by any police force in India. The curriculum includes mandatory courses from the Integrated Government Online Training (iGOT) portal, ensuring standardized and uniform content delivery.
To support holistic development, 32 physical training instructors have been specially trained as health coaches, providing both physical and emotional support to the new recruits.
Integrating Soft Skills with Operational Readiness
DGP Krishna emphasized that this initiative is more than just a training session—it marks the beginning of a new policing culture in Uttar Pradesh. He underlined the crucial role of induction training in shaping the long-term behaviour of police personnel, asserting that soft skills must complement operational proficiency.
The program focuses on developing emotional intelligence, ethical clarity, and interpersonal skills—attributes that are as essential to modern policing as legal and procedural knowledge.
Strategic Vision for a Cohesive and Service-Oriented Police Force
This large-scale behavioural training initiative represents a strategic vision to build a cohesive, people-centric, and service-oriented policing culture in Uttar Pradesh. By equipping new recruits with strong soft skills and ethical foundations, the program aims to boost public trust and enhance the overall effectiveness of law enforcement.
As Uttar Pradesh continues to evolve its policing strategies, this initiative stands as a testament to the state’s commitment to creating a police force that excels not only in operational capability but also in ethical conduct and public accountability.
