New Delhi: The Ministry of Women & Child Development (MWCD) has officially announced that starting 1 November 2025, the new toll-free helpline number 1515 will become the dedicated single-point contact for beneficiaries of the flagship schemes POSHAN Abhiyaan (nutrition for children and women) and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (maternity benefit).
This change replaces the existing helpline number 14408. The change is part of a government initiative to make support easier, simpler to recall and access for women, children, pregnant and lactating mothers across India.

While the transition takes place, callers may still use 14408 if they encounter difficulty connecting to 1515. The helpline will continue to serve as a central point for queries, information and support under both POSHAN and PMMVY schemes.
Importance of New Helpline
Simplified Access: A one-digit number (1515) is easier to remember, particularly in emergencies or when in rural/remote areas.
Unified Support for Two Key Schemes: POSHAN focuses on nutrition of children, pregnant and lactating mothers; PMMVY gives maternity benefits. Linking both with a single helpline enhances integration of services.
Nationwide Reach: The helpline is expected to cover all States and Union Territories, aiding scheme beneficiaries regardless of region.
Smooth Transition Consideration: The Ministry has flagged that during initial days of integration, some callers may still have to use the old number. This transparency helps avoid confusion.
About the The Key Schemes
POSHAN Abhiyaan
Launched in 2018, this multi-ministerial mission aims to reduce stunting, under-nutrition, anemia and low birth weight by converging nutrition-related services, using ICT monitoring, community mobilisation and behavioural change.
Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)
Implemented from January 2017, this scheme provides a wage-loss compensation to pregnant and lactating women for the first live birth. It supports safe delivery, improved nutrition and child health.
About the Ministry of Women & Child Development
The Ministry is responsible for formulating policies, promoting welfare, and implementing programmes for women and children in India. Key initiatives include POSHAN Abhiyaan, PMMVY, Mission Shakti, Mission Vatsalya, Saksham Anganwadi etc.
What Beneficiaries Should Do
- From 1 November 2025, dial 1515 for queries related to POSHAN and PMMVY services.
- If unable to connect to 1515 during transition, continue to use 14408 until further notice.
- Keep beneficiary details ready: Name, scheme (POSHAN or PMMVY), area/State, benefit ID (if available), query type.
Understand that the helpline is for information, support and grievance redressal—cases requiring physical service delivery (e.g., Anganwadi services, maternity benefit payout) will still follow scheme norms and local contact points.
Implications for Rural India & Last-Mile Outreach
For rural areas—where remembering longer numbers or accessing multiple lines can be challenging—the new single-digit helpline is a significant step. It reduces friction for pregnant women, lactating mothers, and parents of young children seeking nutrition or maternity benefits. Enhanced recall of contact numbers can lead to higher engagement and better utilisation of services.
Moreover, this shift signals the government’s intent to streamline support systems and unify service access channels, which is key in the decentralised Indian context.
