Delhi: India’s highway infrastructure push gained significant momentum in the financial year 2025–26, as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) exceeded its construction and spending targets, reinforcing its commitment to building world-class road networks across the country.
Highway Construction Exceeds Annual Target
In FY 2025–26, NHAI successfully constructed 5,313 km of National Highways, surpassing its annual target of 4,640 km. This marks an impressive 15% increase over the planned goal, reflecting accelerated execution and improved project management.
The achievement highlights NHAI’s focus on fast-tracking infrastructure development to meet the growing demands of connectivity and economic expansion.
Capital Expenditure Crosses Budgetary Support
NHAI also demonstrated strong financial performance during the year, with a total capital expenditure of ₹2,44,362 crore dedicated to highway development.
- Government Budgetary Support: ₹2,38,384 crore
- Actual Spending: ₹2,44,362 crore
- Excess Funding: ₹5,978 crore
Notably, the additional expenditure was financed through NHAI’s own resources, showcasing its financial strength and operational efficiency.
