New Delhi: State-run NHPC Ltd reported a 3% year-on-year rise in net profit to ₹1,131.16 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, driven by a strong increase in income and the commissioning of major energy projects.
According to a regulatory filing, the hydropower giant had posted a net profit of ₹1,101.63 crore during the same quarter last year.
Revenue Growth Underpins Profit Increase
NHPC’s total income rose to ₹3,442.76 crore, up from ₹3,037.92 crore in Q1 of FY25. The income growth was fueled by improved operational output and contribution from newly commissioned assets.
Major Capacity Additions in Q1
The quarter saw significant capacity additions–
800 MW Parbati-II Hydroelectric Project was successfully commissioned in Himachal Pradesh, marking one of the most significant hydro additions of the year.
214.28 MW out of the 300 MW Kamisar Solar Power Project in Bikaner, Rajasthan was also commissioned during the period.
These developments highlight NHPC’s growing presence in the renewables sector, in addition to its core hydroelectric portfolio.
Company Profile and Expansion Strategy
Operating under the Ministry of Power, NHPC is India’s largest hydropower development organisation, capable of executing the entire project lifecycle – from planning and design to commissioning.
In recent years, NHPC has diversified into solar and wind energy, aligning with India’s broader transition toward renewable energy and carbon neutrality goals.
Outlook
The company’s successful commissioning of over 1,000 MW during the quarter strengthens its project pipeline and revenue visibility for the coming fiscal. NHPC’s strategic mix of hydro and solar assets positions it well to meet both seasonal demand variability and policy mandates for cleaner energy.
