Faridabad, Haryana: State-owned hydropower major NHPC Ltd reported a strong 52% year-on-year rise in its consolidated net profit to ₹919.63 crore for the March 2025 quarter, boosted by higher income. In the same quarter last year, the company had posted a net profit of ₹605 crore.

Total income for the January-March 2025 period rose to ₹2,672.11 crore, up from ₹2,320.18 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal, NHPC said in a stock exchange filing on Tuesday.

Dividend of Re 0.51 recommended

The company’s board has recommended a final dividend of ₹0.51 per equity share of face value ₹10 for the financial year 2024–25, subject to shareholder approval at the upcoming Annual General Meeting. This is in addition to the interim dividend of ₹1.40 per share disbursed in March 2025.

“Recommended final dividend @5.10% of face value of Rs 10 per share (Re 0.51 per equity share) on the paid-up share capital of the Company for the FY 2024-25,” NHPC said in filing.

Despite the strong Q4 showing, NHPC’s net profit for the full financial year 2024–25 fell by about 15% to ₹3,411.73 crore, compared to ₹3,999.54 crore in FY24.

During the year, the company commissioned significant renewable energy projects, including the 800 MW Parbati-II hydroelectric project and 107.14 MW of the 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Plant.

Q4 FY25 Result

On Tuesday, NHPC said that its profit in Q4 FY2025 jumped by 52 per cent YoY to Rs 919.63 crore. The PSU had posted a net profit of Rs 605 crore in Q4 FY2024. NHPC said that its income in Q4 increased to Rs 2,672.11 crore from Rs 2,320.18 crore in Q4 of last fiscal.

Natural Calamities Leading to significant losses to projects

However, NHPC’s operations were impacted by natural calamities. A flash flood in the Teesta River in October 2023 caused damage and generation loss at Teesta-V, Teesta Low Dam-III, and Teesta Low Dam-IV power stations. Further, a landslide in August 2024 at Teesta-V Power Station resulted in additional losses. These incidents, the company said, are covered under its Mega Insurance Policy, and claims have been filed.

In relation to these events, NHPC recognised ₹44.34 crore and ₹108.59 crore under ‘Other Income’ for the quarter and full year, respectively. It also recorded ‘Other Expenses’ related to material damage at ₹28.66 crore for the quarter and ₹99.73 crore for the year ended March 31, 2025.
