Noida: In a significant leadership shift, Nitu Samra has been appointed as the interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Noida International Airport, just days after the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) declined approval for Swiss national Christoph Schnellmann to continue in the role.
BCAS Rule Triggers Leadership Change
The move follows a regulatory requirement that mandates the CEO of an airport in India must be an Indian national. The rule, part of aviation security norms, led to the denial of Schnellmann’s continuation as CEO.
The decision also came shortly after the Ministry of Home Affairs rejected a proposal to relax the rules for allowing foreign nationals to head greenfield airports, citing security concerns.
Immediate Effect Appointment
The airport operator announced that:
- Nitu Samra will serve as interim CEO with immediate effect
- The appointment will remain until a formal selection process is completed by the Board
Schnellmann, who had been leading the project since August 2020, will now transition to the role of Executive Vice Chairman on the Board, continuing to support the airport’s operational rollout.
