NLC India Ltd has announced the incorporation of a new Joint Venture (JV) company with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) to establish, operate, and maintain a 3 x 125 MW lignite-based thermal power station in Rajasthan. The equity participation in the JV will be in the ratio of 74:26 between NLC India and RVUNL, respectively.
The proposed JV, provisionally named NLC Rajasthan Power Limited, will also be responsible for developing and operating lignite mines to supply fuel to the thermal power plant. The project marks a significant step in expanding lignite-based power generation in the state.
The formation of the JV is subject to compliance with guidelines issued by the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), and it requires approvals from the Ministry of Coal (MoC) and other relevant departments. The Ministry of Coal has already conveyed its order of approval, signaling a major milestone for the project.
Once operational, the JV aims to enhance energy security and support the growing electricity demand in Rajasthan by leveraging the region’s lignite reserves for power generation.
