Chennai: NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal, has reached an advanced stage in the procurement of electrolysers for its upcoming 4 MW green hydrogen pilot project at Neyveli, Tamil Nadu. Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli confirmed the development, emphasizing the company’s commitment to driving India’s clean energy transition.

Aligning with the National Green Hydrogen Mission

The pilot project is designed to support the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which seeks to establish India as a global hub for green hydrogen production and technology. Powered by solar energy, the Neyveli project will integrate cutting-edge electrolyser technology to ensure sustainable hydrogen generation.

Daily Hydrogen Production Capacity

Once commissioned, the plant will be capable of producing 300 kilograms of green hydrogen per day with 99.999 percent purity. Operations will run during daylight hours, enabling efficient use of renewable energy. With this initiative, NLCIL positions itself among India’s early movers in the green hydrogen economy, laying the foundation for large-scale adoption in the future.

The company plays a pivotal role in ensuring power supply across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, and Rajasthan.

Growth Targets for 2030

Looking ahead, NLCIL has set ambitious expansion plans. It is on track to achieve a mining capacity of 104.35 million tonnes per annum and aims to cross 10 GW each in both thermal and renewable power generation by 2030. These targets reflect the company’s strategy to balance conventional and green energy in India’s power mix.
