In a significant move towards enhancing India’s energy security and sustainable power generation, NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) has signed two crucial Joint Venture (JV) agreements with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL). These JVs aim to advance both renewable energy and lignite-based thermal power projects in Rajasthan, reflecting the government’s vision for a greener, more sustainable energy future.
The agreements are aligned with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s goal of energy security and sustainability, under the guidance of Union Minister for Coal and Mines Shri G. Kishan Reddy and Minister of State for Coal and Mines Shri Satish Chandra Dubey. The initiative marks another milestone in NLCIL’s corporate strategy for aggressive capacity expansion in the energy sector.
1 Two Major Joint Ventures for Energy Growth

The first JV is between NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a subsidiary of NLCIL, and RRVUNL, focused on establishing renewable energy projects in Rajasthan. The second JV will focus on the development of a lignite-based thermal power station.
In both ventures, NLCIL will hold a majority stake of 74%, while RRVUNL will have a 26% equity stake. This strategic equity distribution reflects the collaborative spirit between a national and state energy player to drive energy growth in Rajasthan.

The agreements were signed in the presence of several prominent officials, underscoring the importance of the partnerships. Rajasthan’s Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Shri Alok, IAS, attended the event along with senior leadership from both NLCIL and RRVUNL. The agreements were officially signed by Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya, Director (Finance), NLCIL, and Shri Devendra Shringi, CMD, RRVUNL. CMD of NLCIL, Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, was also present, further highlighting the significance of these ventures.
