New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has decided not to recommend any candidate for the post of Director (Commercial) at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Steel.
The decision was reached during PESB’s Meeting No. 68/2025 held on Wednesday. Despite interviewing 12 candidates, the board concluded that none were suitable for the key leadership role.
Candidates Included Senior Officials from Multiple PSUs
The panel interviewed a diverse pool of candidates, primarily senior executives from SAIL itself. The list also featured officers from other prominent PSUs including Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), NTPC Limited, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), MECON Limited, NMDC Limited, and Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd.
The applicants included Executive Directors and Chief General Managers holding critical portfolios in coal imports, sales, logistics, and marketing.

Search-cum-Selection Committee on the Cards
Despite the depth of experience in the candidate pool, PESB found no one suitable for recommendation. As a result, it has advised the Ministry of Steel to explore alternate selection mechanisms.
This may include forming a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC), subject to clearance from the competent authority.
