Noida: In a significant disciplinary action, the Uttar Pradesh Police has suspended two police officers in Noida and initiated a preliminary inquiry against a senior officer over alleged failure to invoke relevant legal provisions, including the Uttar Pradesh anti-conversion law, in a woman’s complaint involving alleged deception, coercion and financial exploitation.
Two Officers Suspended, Inquiry Ordered Against Senior Officer
According to police officials:
• Puneet Kumar, Station In-charge of Phase-3 police station, has been suspended
• Preeti Gupta, Investigating Officer, has also been suspended
• Explanation has been sought from Shakti Mohan Awasthi
• Preliminary inquiry has been initiated against Umesh Yadav
The disciplinary action followed allegations that key legal sections were omitted while registering the FIR.
Sections of UP Anti-Conversion Law and SC/ST Act Were Not Added
Police officials said the case initially failed to include:
• Section 5(3) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021
• Section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989
These sections relate to:
• Conversion through force, threat, marriage or false promise of marriage
• Serious offences committed against SC/ST persons carrying severe punishment
FIR Was Initially Registered Under BNS Sections Only
The complaint was initially registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including:
• Section 69
• Section 351
• Section 308
Woman Alleged False Identity, Marriage Promise and Financial Exploitation
The complainant alleged that:
• She was in a relationship with the accused for two years
• He promised marriage
• He allegedly took money and jewellery
• He created intimate videos and threatened her
• He allegedly concealed his identity
According to her statement, she met the accused through social media.
She alleged that he introduced himself as Vikas, while his actual identity was later revealed as Muhammad Rameez.
Protest at Phase-3 Police Station by Bajrang Dal Members
After alleging repeated police inaction, the woman approached members of Bajrang Dal, who staged a protest at the Phase-3 police station.
The protest drew public attention and led to administrative review of police handling of the complaint.
Accused Arrested by Noida Police
Police later confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody.
Officials stated that:
• Both individuals knew each other previously
• Police are treating the matter as a relationship-linked criminal dispute while continuing legal examination
• Further legal proceedings are underway
