CMPDI Appoints Nripendra Nath as Director (Technical) to Boost Mine Safety and Operational Efficiency

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad alumnus and SIMTARS-accredited expert brings decades of coal industry experience to enhance CMPDI and Coal India’s mining operations

New Delhi: Mr. Nripendra Nath officially assumed charge as Director (Technical) of Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI) on 31st October 2025, bringing with him decades of rich experience in the coal and mining sector.

Distinguished Career in the Coal Industry

Mr. Nripendra Nath is an alumnus of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Class of 1988, and began his career with Central Coalfields Limited’s (CCL) N. K. Area, where he made significant contributions to the World Bank-aided KDH Project for nearly twenty years.

Over the years, he held key positions across Coal India Limited (CIL) subsidiaries, including serving as Project Officer in various Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) mines. As the Area General Manager of Magadh-Sanghmitra Area of CCL, Mr. Nath played a pivotal role in propelling the area into the prestigious 20 Mte production club, highlighting his strong operational and managerial expertise.

Expertise in Mine Safety and International Exposure

Mr. Nath is a SIMTARS-accredited trainer, trained in Australia, and has been actively involved in imparting mine safety training across CIL subsidiaries. His work has been instrumental in formulating and implementing Mine Safety Management Plans, significantly improving safety protocols and operational efficiency.

In addition to his national contributions, Mr. Nath has gained substantial international exposure, having participated in the AGTMP delegation to several European countries in 2024, bringing global best practices in mining technology and safety to India.

With his extensive experience in diverse aspects of the coal industry, Mr. Nath is expected to play a crucial role in leveraging global best practices to advance mine safety, operational efficiency, and sustainable mining practices across CMPDI and CIL. His leadership is anticipated to strengthen CMPDI’s position as a pioneering technical consultancy in the coal sector.
