Ranchi: Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), a Mini Ratna subsidiary of Coal India Limited, paid a heartfelt tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar—the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and an ardent advocate of social justice—by unveiling his statue at its headquarters in Ranchi. The inauguration ceremony was held on October 13, 2025, and symbolized CMPDI’s steadfast commitment to the ideals of equality, inclusion, and nation-building as envisioned by Dr Ambedkar.
The statue was unveiled by Mr. Manoj Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, CMPDI, in the gracious presence of senior officials and dignitaries, including Mr. Shankar Nagachari, Director (Technical/Projects & Design), Mr. Ajay Kumar, Director (Technical/CRD/RD&T), and Mr. R.K. Sinha, General Manager (Co-ordination).
Also in attendance were representatives of various trade unions and employee associations such as AITUC, CITU, BMS, All India SC/ST/OBC Coordination Council, Coal India SC/ST Employees Association (CISTEA), Backward Class (OBC) Welfare Association, and CMOAI, along with numerous senior officials and employees of CMPDI.

Tribute to the Champion of Social Justice
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Manoj Kumar emphasized the deep significance of installing Dr Ambedkar’s statue at the CMPDI headquarters. He stated that the statue stands not just as a tribute to one of India’s greatest reformers, but also as a permanent reminder of his relentless efforts to secure constitutional rights for all and uplift marginalized communities.
“Dr Ambedkar’s ideals are timeless and guide our responsibility towards building a more inclusive and equitable workplace. The statue will inspire every employee and visitor to uphold the principles of justice, equality, and fraternity that he championed throughout his life,” Mr. Kumar said.

The event served as a platform to reflect upon and reaffirm CMPDI’s internal policies and practices aimed at fostering diversity and inclusion.
