NTPC Bongaigaon Trains Mid-Level Executives in Strategic Leadership with IIM Shillong Collaboration

New Delhi: NTPC Bongaigaon successfully organized a three-day Management Development Programme (MDP) on “Practicing Strategic Leadership” for its mid-level executives, in collaboration with the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong, from January 19 to 21, 2026. The initiative was aimed at enhancing leadership capabilities and equipping executives with modern tools and strategies to tackle evolving organizational and people-centric challenges.

Programme Inauguration and Key Highlights

The programme was inaugurated by Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, who emphasized the importance of strategic leadership in today’s dynamic corporate environment. Mr. Maitra highlighted that such focused capacity-building initiatives are vital for developing leaders who can align NTPC’s objectives with innovation, empathy, and sustainable growth.

Expert Faculty and Contemporary Learning Approaches

Academic sessions were conducted by Dr. Sitanshu Shekhar Das and Dr. Priya Alat, Assistant Professors at IIM Shillong, specializing in Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources. The faculty introduced participants to the SMILE Framework, which focuses on:

  • Innovation
  • Learning Agility
  • Empathetic Leadership

The sessions also explored leadership strategies for effectively engaging Gen Z and Gen Alpha employees in fast-paced and complex work environments.

A total of 23 executives from diverse functional domains of NTPC Bongaigaon participated in the programme. Participants actively presented case studies based on real-life workplace scenarios and engaged in in-depth discussions with the faculty on strategic decision-making, leadership dilemmas, and human resource management. The interactive nature of the sessions reinforced practical learning and facilitated rich peer exchange.
