NTPC Bongaigaon Supports Young Footballers for Assam Trials

NTPC provided sports kits, financial assistance for transport, and allowances to these young talents who were selected to participate in the Under-15 and Under-17 Assam Trials

In a significant step towards promoting grassroots football, NTPC Bongaigaon, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, has extended support to four promising footballers from rural areas. The company provided sports kits, financial assistance for transport, and allowances to these young talents who were selected to participate in the Under-15 and Under-17 Assam Trials held at Adabari Playground, Kokrajhar, in January 2025. The trials were conducted by Sudeva Delhi FC, and the selected players include Master Sandeep Nazary, Master Kapil Brahma, Ms. Rangina Basumatary, and Master Nihan Basumatary.

NTPC Bongaigaon Head of Project Mr. Arnab Maitra addressed the gathering in the presence of Dr. Heman Hazarika, Scientist, Regional Office, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). Mr. Maitra reaffirmed NTPC’s commitment to fostering sports and nurturing young talents, especially from rural backgrounds. Dr. Heman Hazarika commended NTPC’s efforts in supporting local athletes and wished the young players success in the upcoming trials while emphasizing the importance of balancing sports and academics.

Responding to a request from the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), NTPC Bongaigaon facilitated the selected players’ participation in the final trials at Sudeva Delhi FC’s training facility in Delhi. Mr. Danen Narzary, President, Salakati Anchalik Committee, ABSU, Mr. Ajay Ram Baro, General Secretary, NTPC Bongaigaon Employees Union, Mr. Pinchu Daimary, President, NBEU, and representatives of Salakati Shramik Union expressed their gratitude to NTPC for its proactive support.

Mr. Onkar Nath, addressing the event, underscored the significance of such initiatives in transforming the sports landscape of the region. The programme was also attended by Ms. Sheeja A. Sasidharan, AGM (EMG), Mr. Paresh Mathur, AGM (TS), Mr. Roshan Dungdung, DGM (HR), and Mr. Madhurjya S. Lahkar, DGM (CC). This initiative reflects NTPC Bongaigaon’s continued commitment to community development and promoting sports as a catalyst for youth empowerment.
