New Delhi: NTPC Limited has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) to explore strategic collaboration in the utilisation of coal and lignite resources. The agreements were signed in the presence of NTPC’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Gurdeep Singh and GMDC’s Managing Director Roopwant Singh (IAS), along with senior officials from both organisations.

The partnership aims to enhance India’s energy security, promote cleaner coal technologies, and support the nation’s goal of greater energy self-reliance.

First MoU: Reliable Coal Supply for Power Generation

The first MoU focuses on establishing a strategic partnership to utilise coal from GMDC’s coal blocks for power generation at NTPC’s existing and upcoming power stations. By ensuring a steady and reliable supply of coal, the collaboration is expected to:

  • Support increased power generation capacity
  • Reduce fuel supply uncertainties
  • Strengthen operational efficiency at NTPC power plants

This MoU reflects NTPC’s commitment to maintaining a robust and uninterrupted fuel supply for sustainable power production across India.

  • Development of pilot projects for coal and lignite gasification
  • Utilisation of syngas for industrial applications
  • Promotion of cleaner and more efficient fossil fuel usage

This initiative aligns with the Indian government’s push towards clean coal technologies and greener energy solutions, while also supporting industrial growth and energy efficiency.

Strengthening India’s Energy Security

Together, these MoUs between NTPC and GMDC aim to bolster India’s energy self-reliance by:

  • Ensuring reliable fuel supply for power generation
  • Advancing innovative technologies for cleaner energy
  • Strengthening collaboration between public sector energy and mining companies

The partnership underscores both organisations’ commitment to sustainable development, technological innovation, and long-term energy planning.
