New Delhi: NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL), the renewable energy arm of NTPC, has announced the commercial operation of an additional 49.125 megawatt (MW) capacity at its Khavda Solar Energy Project located in Bhuj, Gujarat, effective from 00:00 hours on August 22, 2025.
This commissioning marks the third phase of the 300 MW Khavda Solar project. Earlier, NGEL brought 142.2 MW online on June 28, followed by another 32.8 MW on June 30. The newly operational capacity boosts the project’s contribution to India’s growing renewable energy footprint.
Strategic Green Push by NTPC
NTPC Green Energy Ltd serves as the umbrella organization for all green initiatives under NTPC. The company is actively expanding its portfolio through both organic growth and strategic acquisitions, in alignment with India’s clean energy targets.
With the Khavda project progressing in phases, NGEL exemplifies a modular and scalable approach to solar deployment, enabling early power generation and quicker returns even as full project capacity is gradually brought online.
Background: The Khavda Solar Hub
The Khavda region is emerging as a significant solar power hub in Gujarat. The 300 MW project is part of NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd’s larger portfolio of clean energy ventures and contributes directly to NTPC Group’s national strategy for increasing non-fossil capacity.
